This weekend I spent the weekend with Nina W's parents in Heidelburg, a very gorgeous city in Baden-Wurttemburg
The red bit a the top, that would be it |
While there we saw the Thingstätte, an old ampitheatre once used for Nazi events.
As with all my pictures, click to embiggen.
The Thingstätte was built in 1934 by university students, and there is also a Wehrmacht graveyard nearby.
On the way to hiking to the ampitheatre we passed this marker, designating that we were on the 'Holy Mountain' (Heiligenberg), and the 'Feierstätte/Thingstätte' was ahead. The watch tower (Aussichtsturm) was behind us.
The watch tower, and the view from on top of the watch tower, on a very snowy day in Heidlburg!
Here we are at the St. Micheals ruins atop the Holy Mountain! Here we had a massive snowball fight, and were able to see the snowy ruins as well as a really cool view of Heidlburg.
Here we are on the river bank, and en route to the city center, were we went to one of Nina's favorite bars for dinner! Vetters!
On the way there, we passed a gun store with two nights on it, and from inside Vetters, where we saw a king portrait holding a cold glass of Vetters beer!
Once it got dark out, we walked around the christmas market and saw the Old Bridge! The bottom picture is of the 'Old Knight Hotel', does the building style look at all familiar?
Here are some photos borrowed from Wikipedia and other USACers, (having no computer makes keeping up with blogs very hard). Enjoy!
A panoramic view from the Neckar River
The old Castle, as viewable from the town square!
Until Next Time!!
